For the third straight season, Connor Hellebuyck has struggled in the post-season, but it hasn't effected his confidence after his recent comments about his play.
After a 2-0 start to their series against the St. Louis Blues, the Winnipeg Jets were dominated in their two games on the road, and after goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was pulled in both games, those questions about his play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs have resurfaced.
With a save percentage under .890 in 14 games played over the last three seasons, Hellebuyck has been one of the biggest playoff droppers in the entire NHL, and with the Jets season hanging in the balance, he needs to turn things around quickly.
Now, he's shown no signs of falling apart mentally, as his recent comments show that the Jets goaltender remains full of confidence as the series shifts back to Winnipeg on Wednesday.
«Am I gonna be better? I am gonna be better. I've studied goaltending extremely hard. I've probably studied it the most out of anyone in this world, so I know what to do & how to get my best game, so that's what I'm looking forward to doing.»
After recent play, no one would have blamed Hellebuyck if he got into his own head and lacked confidence heading into Game 5, but if that happened, things would be all but over for Winnipeg.
As it stands, they're in for a major test in the coming days as they look to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the No. 1 seed, but as things stand, it's either Hellebuyck and the Jets thrive or he continues to struggle and the team loses, and if his confidence is anything to go by, it could be the former.
