Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Roy announced tragic news today shared by him and his wife Linsey.

The Washington Capitals have been one of the best stories in the NHL this year.
The team was not expected to be particularly good after a mediocre 2023-24 season that ended with a first-round playoff sweep, but here they are leading the Eastern Conference in early April.
Alex Ovechkin is set to break Wayne Gretzky's goal record at any moment and the team looks like legitimate contenders for a Stanley Cup.
That being said, it has not been all sunshine and rainbows for the team.
Recently, defenseman Matt Roy was away from the team for undisclosed personal reasons.
Today, that reason was revealed. Roy's wife Linsey came forward with her story, saying that the couple lost their child during a miscarriage.
"Earlier this week we said goodbye to our baby girl. A very surprising, unexpected and incredibly wanted natural pregnancy met with an equally shocking and devastating loss."

While this is a deeply personal and traumatic experience, Linsey stated that she wanted to share their story in an effort to ensure anyone going through something similar does not feel alone.
"I choose to share our family growing journey in hopes it helps even one person feel less alone. Less isolated. Less pain. Loss after living children still sucks. It hurts not being able to give Nico this sibling we were hoping for."
With Roy returning to the team, the Capitals are mostly healthy and ready to go for the playoffs as the regular season winds down.
However, they could be getting a little more help on the blueline as top prospect Ryan Chesley could sign his entry-level contract before the end of the season after going pro, leaving the University of Minnesota.
Be sure to stay tuned to see how far Roy and the Capitals can go in the playoffs this year. Will Ovechkin secure his second career Stanley Cup?
