Sidney Crosby has been a major success on the ice, and now away from it, he's looking to set himself up for life after retirement from the NHL.
On the ice, Sidney Crosby is one of the most successful players in NHL history, and with his retirement nearing, he's made an intriguing move to set himself up for the future beyond hockey.
That latest move involves former teammate Mark Streit, who was key in setting up the luxury watch brand NORQAIN, and now, Crosby has bought his stake in the company, with founder and CEO Ben Kuffer commenting on the latest move.
«The discussions picked up last summer, quite quickly. I could tell he really liked the brand and the whole 'my life, my way' actually meant something. I think the key moment for me, when I realized this is something special, is when Sid said that, post-career, he could imagine being on the board or being involved in Norqain. He wants to really be part of the business.»
The watch brand was notably working with NHL superstar
Roman Josi as well, as the Swedish defenseman took part in a recent advertisement for the company on social media.
As for Crosby, he noted that he first came to see the company back in 2019 when they were handed out at the All-Star Game, and after wearing them exclusively since, this was a move that simply made sense.
«I've been wearing Norqain watches and following the brand since its first appearance at the All-Star Game in San Jose in 2019. The brand has been growing incredibly fast around the world since then, and I'm really excited to join and support its further development while teaming up with Mark again. I am excited to work with Norqain and see what we can do together moving forward.»
While this likely won't be the only business move Crosby makes as he looks towards life after the NHL, it's certainly a great first step, and with the company truly taking off, he's got the chance to be a part of something very special moving forward.
