During last night's game between the Hurricanes and Capitals, Tom Wilson appeared to put his hand in Sebastian Aho's mouth and grab his mouth guard.
Metropolitan Division divisional foes for many decades, the two teams fought with grit and determination in Game One, which ended in thrilling fashion.
Carolina seized control of the series with a breathtaking overtime victory on the
Jaccob Slavin goal, holding on to the gritty, no-holds-barred, see-saw game against Washington.
The two teams came to play with the pedal to the metal, each willing to create an early series advantage. Few players enjoy this kind of atmosphere more than Capitals winger Tom Wilson.
Wilson played well in Game One. After the play had been blown dead, he got into the face of Hurricanes star Sebastian Aho when the game was tied 1-1 during the third period.
Tom Wilson was at it once again with his antics
In an odd and now-notorious instance,
Wilson simply pulled Aho's mouthguard right out of his mouth with his glove. Although the referee made him shove it back in (gross), the gimmick generated a lot of hype among fans.
Many began to wonder whether this type of play would be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and warrant, at the very least, a fine, as we have seen the NHL do during these playoffs.
Game Two is scheduled for Thursday evening in Washington, where tensions will be running high.
