Tom Wilson Makes Controversial Comments After Defeating Montreal Canadiens in Game 5
Tom Wilson and the Capitals rolled past Montreal in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and after the game, the veteran called out his defeated opponent.
The Montreal Canadiens put up a fantastic fight as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference, but after five games, the Washington Capitals put away the young, up-and-coming team 4-1, with the finale coming on Wednesday night as the experience team won Game 5 by a score of 4-1.
There's plenty of respect between the two teams, but after the Capitals put the Canadiens away at home in Game 5, veteran forward Tom Wilson had some choice words for his opponent.
«we knew they were going to play cheap.»
From anyone else, this could be seen as a very shocking statement, but from Wilson it just seems rather crazy given the way he has behaved in the NHL over the years, becoming one of, if not the single most hated player in the league by opposing teams and their fans.
However, it's hard to argue Wilson here, as both teams laid on some very cheap and dirty shots throughout the series, but eventually, Washington just had more experience and more talent, and ended up coming out on top 4-1 in the series.
Ultimately, there was plenty of feeling and emotion from both parties in this series, and combined with the incredible atmosphere that was provided in both Washington and Montreal, it was everything that their fans and neutral fans could have wanted, and as for Wilsons comments, only time will tell just how the Capitals play moving forward in this post-season, as they certainly weren't above those type of antics.
