During today’s Capitals and Penguins game forward Tom Wilson was caught on a hot mic using controversial language and is now facing backlash.
The Washington Capitals came into today’s game looking to keep their playoff hopes alive while celebrating Alex Ovechkin’s potential last home game in the NHL.
The game ended up being an intense battle between the two sides with the Capitals taking the lead on a goal set up by Ovechkin.
Late in the game, with the Capitals still up tempers flared drastically as Tom Wilson got into a verbal altercation with Elmer Soderblom.
He is now facing backlash for the language he used with fans calling him out on social media in bunches.

During a scrum in the third period, Wilson called out Soderblom and challenged him and his teammates to a fight.
In the process of asking for a fight Wilson used some colorful language that fans are now mocking him for.
Fans came into the replies calling Wilson a clown and condemning him for going after Soderblom.
This outrage from fans likely comes as a result of Wilson’s long history of being a pest and potentially dirty player during his NHL career.
While Wilson likely will not face any discipline after this hot mic moment, he has now placed a target on his back if the Capitals and Penguins end up playing one another in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Wilson and the Capitals will next travel to Columbus for their final chance to keep their Stanley Cup Playoff hopes alive.
