Alex Ovechkin has been honoured in many ways since passing Wayne Gretzky last season, and now he's had another honour after announcing a cereal.
The Washington Capitals had an amazing 2024/25 campaign, but obviously, the biggest story of their season revolved around their superstar captain and his record breaking season, culminating in a very special night against the New York Islanders.
After 20-years of being beloved in Washington, Alex Ovechkin officially broke Wayne Gretzky's record as the NHL's all-time greatest goal scorer, with the entire sports world stopping to congratulate and honour the Capitals superstar for breaking what many believed would be an unbreakable record.
Ovechkin honoured with his own cereal... again
For the second time in his career, Ovechkin is now being honoured with his own cereal, this time known as 'Ovi's Great Crunch' to celebrate goal number 896, making him the greatest goal scorer in league history.
It's for a great cause as well, as Giant Food have encouraged and promoted fans donating to the V Foundation to help fight cancer, with Ovechkin addressing the announcement
in a recent interview.
"I'm excited to partner with Giant Food again on this new cereal. I hope fans and kids enjoy it and remember to eat breakfast every day! I'm also very grateful to Giant Food for helping promote and encouraging fans to donate to the V Foundation to help fight cancer."
This isn't the first time in his career that Ovechkin's had his own cereal released, and given his greatness, it's easy to see why he deserved it this time around, and given the good cause it goes to celebrate, it's a worthy endeavour from Ovechkin and Giant Food.
