The Vancouver Canucks will have a hard time keeping Rick Tocchet moving forward, and now a top insider has revealed he may be on the way out very, very soon.
2024/25 has been a rollercoaster for the Vancouver Canucks, and with so many changes, they will have many more questions to answer over the summer as they look to build a winner for the future.
Perhaps the biggest question mark of all is their Head Coach position, as Rick Tocchet has been linked to a major move to the
Philadelphia Flyers, with many believing that he'll be a top candidate for many other potential jobs as well.
Now, Elliotte Friedman has given more details on the current situation involving Tocchet, noting that the team have given him an offer that he hasn't yet accepted, speculating that it's likely they won't hold him to an option year if both sides agree it isn't the right situation.
I think they've made Tocchet an offer. Obviously that offer didn't get it done...I can't see the Canucks hold Tocchet to the option year if they all agree it's not the right path.
Unsurprisingly, Friedman also believes that their offer will need to be a bigger one than they've given any coach in recent years to make a deal happen, and he's unclear how the organization would potentially feel about that.
If they want to extend Tocchet it's going to go into a bigger number than they've paid a coach in quite some time. How do the Canucks feel about that?
At this point in time, plenty of signs are pointing to the Canucks having a new Head Coach a year from now, and while there are ways to convince him to stay, if the team miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that becomes a much harder task for this front office.
