The Canucks traded Arturs Silovs this off-season, and while they could have gotten a solid return from the Oilers, they refused to trade him to their division foe.

This past off-season, the Vancouver Canucks made the tough decision to trade Arturs Silovs to the Pittsburgh Penguins after they locked in both Kevin Lankinen and Thatcher Demko on long-term deals.
In his first season with Pittsburgh, Silovs has been afforded more opportunity than he would have gotten in Vancouver, posting a 2.74 GAA and a .907 save percentage across 11 appearances thus far, staking his claim to potentially be the Penguins long-term solution in net.

Canucks shut down trade talks with the Edmonton Oilers

The return for Silovs in the deal to Pittsburgh was a fourth-round pick, something that seems very cheap in hindsight, and now we potentially know exactly why the return wasn't that high.
After the trade, Frank Seravalli reported that the Edmonton Oilers were in the mix, and now, Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers has revealed that the Oilers could and likely would have outbid the Penguins, revealing that Vancouver were not going to deal him to their fierce division foe, no matter the offer.
It's unclear if the Oilers ever did make an official offer, but according to Courville-Lynch, it simply didn't matter what the offer was, the Oilers weren't going to get the opportunity to acquire him.
Now, Edmonton are still searching for answers in net with Stuart Skinner struggling early in the season, but given the fierce rivalry between Edmonton and Vancouver, the Canucks stance on this one certainly makes sense.

Should the Canucks have gotten the best possible return in a deal for Silovs?
