The Toronto Maple Leafs have once again lost a game that was officiated by Wes MacCauley, bringing their total record in games he oversees to a stunning 0-9.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were unfortunately unable to take a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final against the divisional foe Florida Panthers, losing 5-4 in OT on Friday night in Florida.
Longtime Maple Leafs pest Brad Marchandscored the OT GWG, giving the Panthers their 1st win and cutting into what was a 2-0 series lead.
But drawing the ire of Leafs fans everywhere was official Wes McCauley, who has now overseen 9 straight losses for Toronto when he oversees their games on the ice.
While it's likely coincidental, fans will naturally be fans when it comes to this sort of anomaly and will hope for different officials in Game 4. The NHL has yet to announce the appointed on-ice officials for Game 4, which is scheduled for Sunday.
Referees Dan O'Rourke and Francois St-Laurent oversaw Game 2, a Leafs win at Scotiabank Arena.
There have already been multiple controversies so far in the series by the on-ice officials, most notably the decision not to penalize Panthers forward Sam Bennett for his apparent elbow to the head of goaltender Anthony Stolarz in Game 1; Stolarz has not played since then and has been replaced by backup Joseph Woll.
Regardless of who they are, the Maple Leafs have to put any bad thoughts of their Game 3 OT loss behind them if they are to take a commanding 3-1 lead back to Toronto with them for Game 5 next week.
