Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has officially found out his fate from the NHL after he was caught making an obscene gesture while he was watching yesterday's game.
Yesterday, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander got himself into hot water when he was caught making an obscene gesture toward the camera when it turned to him while watching the rest of his teammates play against the Colorado Avalanche.
Nylander, who since apologized, has found out his official punishment from the NHL, as he was fined $5K.
Of course, given Nylander's AAV (average annual value) of $11.5 million, this won't even count so much as an afterthought for him.
George Parros, the head of the NHL Department of Player Safety, said the following:
The gesture was shown live on-air during the game broadcast. This serves as a reminder the code of conduct governing Players extends throughout the arena at NHL games and in public game situations. - George Parros
Many have called for stiffer punishments for players who are caught breaking the rules, especially for violent on-ice infractions that cause injuries, but those amounts won't be changed until the NHL enters a new CBA agreement.
William Nylander Isn't Playing Right Now Because Of Injury
Nylander has missed 15 games so far this year because of injuries, and has missed the last five after re-aggravating the groin injury that caused an earlier absence.
He's one of many Leafs players who are unavailable or who have been unable to play this year because of injuries, including Chris Tanev, Anthony Stolarz, Dakota Joshua, and Auston Matthews.
He has 48 points (17G, 31A) in the 37 games he's played.
