The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to have found the next voice fans will hear calling their games on radio, and it is a familiar one from within the organization.
According to Jonah Sigel, barring any unexpected changes, Toronto Marlies play-by-play announcer Todd Crocker will take over as the new radio voice of the Maple Leafs this season.
He joins longtime color commentator Jim Ralph in the booth. Sigel indicated more details are expected in the coming days.
Filling a Legendary Void
Crocker would be stepping into a role vacated by Joe Bowen, who recently retired after an extraordinary 43-year run as the voice of the Maple Leafs.
Bowen made his debut behind the microphone in 1982 and became one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in Toronto sports media, having called thousands of games across TSN and Sportsnet radio broadcasts.
Crocker is no stranger to the Maple Leafs organization or its fan base. He has spent years as the play-by-play voice of the Toronto Marlies, the franchise's AHL affiliate, most recently guiding listeners through the Marlies' run to the Calder Cup Final.
He has also become a familiar guest voice on Leafs media programming, regularly discussing prospects and organizational depth.
What Comes Next?
While nothing has been formally announced by the team, Crocker filling in for Bowen on previous occasions suggests an internal transition has already been in motion.
Fans should expect an official announcement in the near future as the Maple Leafs prepare for the new season.
No matter what, it is going to be an adjustment for everyone, especially those who have listened to Bowen on the radio for 43 years.
