Maple Leafs prospect Nikita Grebyonkin has KHL contract terminated
The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nikita Grebyonkin could join the NHL soon as the KHL terminated his contract.
Grebyonkin is coming off a Gagarin Cup win with his KHL team, the Metallurg Magnitogorsk, after a great run of three seasons in Russia.
The Maple Leafs' fifth round pick in 2022 apparently played his last KHL game, as his contract got officially terminated.
The following statement was released by the KHL about Grebyonkin:
Metallurg Magnitogorsk have terminated a contract with 20 y.o. forward Nikita Grebyonkin on mutual agreement.
The 6-foot-1, 20 year old winger, took part in 20 games in this year's playoffs, and tallied three goals and three assists in that span. In the regular season, he scored 41 points, including 19 goals, in 67 games.
While the prospect could join the Leafs next season, chances are he'll join the Marlies in the AHL to get acclimated to North American hockey.
As the Maple Leafs fans focus on the playoffs, this adds another level of excitement for the next season. Alongside Cade Webber, that's two interesting players that could make a difference with the Leafs next year.
