'I guess it's the first step': William Nylander seems to want more after Marc Savard firing
Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander seemed to imply that he wanted more firings after assistant coach Marc Savard was let go, and didn't take any responsibility for letting him down.
There was a major change in leadership for the Toronto Maple Leafs this week, as they decided to fire assistant coach Marc Savard, who was in charge of running their NHL-worst power play.
The Maple Leafs got off on the right foot in their first game after the change was made, beating the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3.
After the game, forward William Nylander was asked about Savard's departure, and he seemed to imply that he was expecting more changes.
Yeah, obviously, he was a great guy and sad to see him go, but I mean, we've been struggling. So, I mean, I guess that's the first step to make a change for the team. - William Nylander
Nylander, who finally broke out of an 11 game scoring drought, spoke earlier in the week and said he's never felt this low in his NHL career.
It's just not going in, that's the way it is. I don't know if I've felt like this before, or had a stretch like this. I'm not sure, I don't feel like I've had that in the NHL, at least. - William Nylander
Nylander had four points (2G, 2A) in the win over the Penguins.
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving Said He Supports Head Coach Craig Berube Fully
Even though he had to let Marc Savard go this week, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving made it clear that he supports head coach Craig Berube and that his job isn't in danger.
I want to make it clear: I support Craig fully. t's not lost on us where the team's at. We live it every day. But I think we've got a real good coach. - Brad Treliving
Berube is in his second year coaching the Maple Leafs, as he was hired to replace the fired Sheldon Keefe in the summer of 2024.
