Craig Berube Takes a Shot at NHL Officials in Press Conference Today
During his press conference after their Game 1 win over the Senators, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube delivered a shot towards the officials who worked the game.
The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up a big win in their opening game of the
Battle of Ontario vs. the divisional foe Ottawa Senators, winning 6-2 and taking a 1-0 series lead.
However, there was one particular incident during the 2nd period that the Maple Leafs felt should have been punished more harshly not only by the on-ice officials but by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
Ottawa's
Ridly Greig cross-checked Toronto forward
John Tavares up high, and initially received a 5-minute major. But upon a video review, the major penalty was reduced to a mere 2-minute minor.
Even so, the Maple Leafs scored a power play goal immediately after the subsequent faceoff.
Earlier today, it was announced that Greig will not face further discipline from the NHL.
Head coach Craig Berube
spoke his mind, as is his reputation, about what the League decided to do about Greig.
That is not my call. It's not my call. I mean, the referees and the league will look at things and make the calls we make. We are not going to focus on that. We are going to focus on what we need to do for the next game.
I thought they made some attempts at our goalie sliding into him and things like that, but it is not for us to worry about. We have to focus on playing. We have to focus on ourselves and what we need to do. The league will look at that stuff.
Berube then delivered one final parting shot at the officials.
We can expect more rough play on the ice between the Leafs and Senators in Game 2!
