Igor Shesterkin Reveals the Truth Behind the Rangers' Downfall This Season

After a President's Trophy win a year ago, many expected the New York Rangers to take another step forward in 2024/25, but whether it be poor coaching, a lack of development from their young stars or the drama off the ice, they simply couldn't get it going this season.

That resulted in them missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs entirely, and already, the team have made some big changes, moving on from Head Coach Peter Laviolette after two seasons behind the bench.

Now, on locker room clean out day, Igor Shesterkin has addressed what must be the most disappointing season of his career thus far, as he revealed what went wrong in the Big Apple this season.

When asked about the struggles, Shesterkin stated that he believes something broke the wrong way for the team at some point this season, and the overall playing group simply couldn't handle it.

Whether that was a trade shaking things up or a poor stretch where they were booed off the Madison Square Garden ice by the fans or another situation is unclear, but what is clear is that this team simply didn't have the fight in them after whatever happened.

Now, they'll look to change things up this summer, with some key questions to be answered, and with Shesterkin, Artemi Panarin and J.T. Miller leading the way, if they can get the right Head Coach that can put this team in a position to succeed, they could bounce back quickly in 2025/26.
