Craig Berube makes first statement as Toronto Maple Leafs Head Coach
The Toronto Maple Leafs have found their man in Craig Berube, and now the veteran coach has made his stance on their play style going forward very clear.
It's no secret that not only did the Toronto Maple Leafs roster construction hold them back under Sheldon Keefe, but also their play style, which is something that was addressed immediately by new Head Coach Craig Berube. During his introductory press conference alongside GM Brad Treliving, Berube sent a clear message to this team about how things will operate under his leadership;
Berube: "We don't want to be out-worked - ever. It's all about the team. Everybody's important, everybody has to be used, they all have roles. We want to play a north game, be fast, be a heavy team. Not running guys and fighting, but you have to be strong and win puck battles."
Unsurprisingly, Berube wants this team to be the hardest working one on the ice every single night, and with players like Auston Matthews and William Nylander leading the way, that can certainly be accomplished.
There's still plenty of work for Berube and Treliving to do this summer, with the impending potential trade of Mitch Marner, while also needing work on the blue line and in net, but if Berube's first impressions are anything to go by, he'll be a very well liked coach in Toronto.
