NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman has teased a potential Auston Matthews trade to the Minnesota Wild to join Team USA teammate Quinn Hughes after talking with an anonymous executive.

There has been lots made about the future of Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews with the team, especially with how they have struggled this year, which will in all likelihood, not result in a playoff spot.
Matthews still is signed for a few more years, but there were even discussions about the possibility of him being traded away from the Maple Leafs during last week's deadline.
Even though Matthews remains with the Leafs for now, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman has teased that he could potentially join his Team USA teammate Quinn Hughes with the Minnesota Wild at some point after a conversation with an anonymous NHL executive.
I was talking to someone today, an executive in the League, and he's like, 'Listening to Bill Guerin do interviews about how great Auston Matthews is.' He's like, 'Minnesota, why don't you just put up a neon sign outside your building that says, "Come here, Auston. Quinn is waiting for you.'" - Elliotte Friedman
As you know, Matthews and Hughes were teammates for Team USA during their historic gold medal victory over Team Canada last month in Milan, Italy. Both players were hand chosen by Guerin to play for the team.
Hughes was also acquired in December by Guerin from the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster trade.

Auston Matthews Could Miss Time After Being Hurt Last Night

Matthews was hurt after a collision with Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas, who earned a five minute major and game misconduct.
Matthews, who was ruled out for the rest of the game, didn't have a status update provided for him by the Maple Leafs today, who only said that he's undergoing an MRI and needs further evaluation.
It's easy to imagine Matthews on the Minnesota Wild; they have another American star in Matthew Boldy, and are in need for a center beyond anything.
It just makes so much sense, if the Wild and Bill Guerin can pull it off.
