Curtis Douglas hasn't quite made it to the NHL level yet, but now the former Maple Leafs forward has found himself with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Back in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Dallas Stars selected centre Curtis Douglas in the fourth round, and since that point, he's put together a very solid career at the professional level.
Unfortunately for Douglas, he's yet to make it to the NHL level, although he's played in almost 300 AHL games between the Belleville Senators, Toronto Marlies and Tucson Roadrunners, last playing with them in 2024/25 by tallying 10 goals and 23 points in 63 games played.
Tampa Bay Claims the 6-Foot-8 Giant on Waivers
Now, after signing a two-year deal with the Utah Mammoth this off-season, he's found himself in a new home, as the Tampa Bay Lightning have officially claimed the 25-year old
on waivers.
Standing at 6-foot-9, it's easy to see why the Lightning would have interest in the talented forward, but thus far, he's simply been unable to take his game to the level where any NHL team sees him as a player ready to play at that level.
It's unlikely that the Lightning see him as that right now, but as a solid depth piece to pickup for free on waivers, he's certainly a solid claim that could be a good player for the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate.
Only time will tell whether or not Douglas is ever going to make the jump to the NHL, but right now, he's got a shot with Tampa Bay as he joins the contending Lightning on waivers.
