Lightning's Brandon Hagel faces maximum fine after crazy game against Buffalo

Brandon Hagel just got hit with the maximum $5,000 fine, and Tampa Bay Lightning fans know exactly why it matters.
NHL Player Safety posted it, calling Hagel the aggressor in his altercation with Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin.
It is only money, but it is also a label, and labels follow you into the next whistle.
This all spilled out of Sunday's absolute circus in Buffalo, an 8-7 Sabres win that turned into nonstop scrums and power plays.
The Hagel and Dahlin moment popped early in the second period, with Hagel throwing after they tied up.
Here is the part that sticks for Tampa, Hagel is not some fourth-line firestarter.
He's driving real offense again in 2025-26, sitting at 30-29-59 through 57 games, and he plays hard minutes in the top-six and on the kill.
Brandon Hagel and Tampa Bay Lightning walk a tightrope
Lightning fans love the bite, but they are tired of feeling like every big game turns into a lesson from the officials.
On the ice, this is a winger who wins races, gets on pucks, and lives in the greasy areas, so emotion is part of the package.
The problem is when that emotion hands the other bench momentum on the man advantage, especially in games that are already tilting chaotic.
If Tampa gets Buffalo again, expect Dahlin to get extra attention, and expect the refs to be staring at Hagel first.
The fine is small, but the next penalty could be the one that actually costs points.
