Trade update emerges on Shane Wright involving the Flyers

Shane Wright is still a Seattle Kraken center in late July, and the reason has less to do with asking price than with timing nobody has mapped out.
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff reported that Jason Botterill has been shopping Wright, and that Seattle lobbied the Philadelphia Flyers earlier in the summer.
"We know that Jason Botterill has been actively shopping center Shane Wright - the Kraken lobbied his services to the Flyers earlier in the summer - but have yet to find the right deal."

That pitch predates the two events that reshaped Philadelphia's roster.
On July 9, the Anaheim Ducks matched Philadelphia's five-year, $90 million offer sheet for Leo Carlsson, leaving the Flyers without a top center but with four first-round picks intact.
Six days later, general manager Danny Briere signed Trevor Zegras to a four-year extension worth $36.5 million, at $9.125 million annually.
The buyer with the picks stopped needing the player
Zegras is expected to open 2026-27 down the middle in Philadelphia after posting 26 goals and 67 points.
That does not close the door on Wright, but it removes the urgency that made the Flyers Seattle's most motivated partner.
Philadelphia can still pay Botterill in the currency he wants, because Anaheim's match preserved every one of those first-rounders.
The problem is that a team with options rarely pays a premium.
What this means for Seattle before camp
Wright, 22, produced 27 points in 74 games last season under head coach Lane Lambert, down from a 44-point sophomore year.
He carries an $886,666 cap hit in the final season of his entry-level deal, per PuckPedia, which makes him cheap but also short-term.
Every week that passes moves Seattle closer to opening camp with a player whose agent, Kurt Overhardt, has already gone public.
Botterill is not fighting a value gap so much as a shrinking list of teams that actually need what he is selling.
