Kaapo Kakko is preparing for his first full season in Seattle, but that has been halted now after Beau Akey gave him a slash that has potentially injured him.
Last season, the New York Rangers traded former top pick Kaapo Kakko in a shock deal
to the Seattle Kraken, and in his first season with his new team, he began to truly flourish on the ice.
In 49 games with the team, Kakko tallied 10 goals and 30 points, and now, he's preparing for his first full season in Seattle as he looks to finally live up to the hype of being the No. 2 overall pick in the NHL Draft.
Kakko suffers injury at the hands of Oilers prospect
Unfortunately, those preparations hit a major roadblock on Wednesday night in a matchup between the Kraken and the Edmonton Oilers, as Kakko was the victim of a brutal two-handed slash from Beau Akey, one that saw him leave the game immediately.
It's unclear at this point in time how severe the injury is, but Kakko
left the game almost immediately, with reports as of right now scarce on the severity of Kakko's situation.
Simply put, if the Kraken want to make a post-season push in 2025/26, they need Kakko healthy and producing, and while Akey was just trying to make a play, it could have derailed the Kraken's season before it truly even got going.
Ultimately, Kakko has fought through injuries before, and the hope is that this isn't too severe and that he can either play through the injury or get back to 100% before the regular season begins, but right now, it's certainly not looking great.
