Brandon Montour made Martin Pospisil pay for running Joey Daccord, then set up Matty Beniers for the overtime winner as Seattle beat Calgary 2-1.
Brandon Montour wasn't about to let this one slide.
In the third period Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, Martin Pospisil of the Calgary Flames barreled into Seattle Kraken goalie Joey Daccord from behind while Daccord was playing a puck behind his net.
Montour reacted right away. He shoved Pospisil to the ice, pinned him against the glass and got at least one shot in before officials jumped between them.
Pospisil already has a history of hits on Kraken players, so Seattle's patience was clearly gone.
Daccord needed a few moments to get back on his feet.
Montour wasn't finished there
The defenseman went from enforcer to playmaker in overtime.
He broke up a play in his own end and pushed the puck ahead to Matty Beniers, who skated in on the longest breakaway of his career and beat Dustin Wolf just 55 seconds into the extra session.
Daccord had a night to remember too.
He stopped 25 of 26 shots, including two third period breakaways, for his first win in three and a half weeks.
The Flames had come in winners of seven of their previous 10.
Yegor Sharangovich gave Calgary the lead in the first period, and Berkly Catton tied it in the second.
What it means for Seattle
The Kraken improved to 9-5-1 and picked up their first overtime win of the season.
They host the New York Rangers on Saturday before flying to Finland for two games against Carolina in the NHL Global Series.
Seattle had lost 6-2 in Calgary just five days earlier, so the response mattered.
Calgary still took the season series 3-1, but Seattle got the last word, and Montour made sure everybody knew he had his goalie's back.
