After another disappointing year, the start to the off-season has been a very interesting one for the San Jose Sharks, as they not only moved on from Head Coach David Quinn, but they also landed the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft. While it's assumed they will select Macklin Celebrini with that pick, the Sharks Head Coaching future is much murkier, but now, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has dropped major news on their search;
According to the report, the Sharks have been granted permission to interview a very familiar face in the form of Marco Sturm, a former first-round pick of the Sharks way back in 1996. Over his tenure in San Jose, Sturm played in 553 games across eight seasons before being dealt for Joe Thornton, but with the team building a solid young core, he could be just the coach to lead them forward.
Sturm is yet to get a Head Coach role in the NHL, but spent two years in the role with the Kings' AHL affiliate the Ontario Reign, and given his connections to the organization, it's safe to say they believe he can take the next step at the NHL level.
