Rem Pitlick was once a third-round pick in the NHL showing promise for several different teams, but now he's hit rock bottom after having his contract terminated.
Back in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Nashville Predators selected Rem Pitlick with the No. 76 overall selection, with many believing that the Ontario native could be a serviceable forward in the NHL.
The 28-year old has since played in 132 games at the NHL level with Nashville, Minnesota, Montreal and Chicago, with his last game coming in 2023/24, and with just 21 goals and 54 points in that time, it appears that no one believes he has a future at the top level.
In 2024/25, Pitlick joined the San Jose Sharks organization on a deal with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, scoring 2 goals and 13 points in 18 games played thus far, but now, his time with the team is officially over.
On Friday, it was announced that Pitlick and the Barracuda had mutually decided to terminate his contract, and at 28-years of age, it's unclear what his future in hockey holds beyond this season.
With 13 points in 18 games, Pitlick made it clear that he can play at the AHL level, and with no other teams looking to give him an opportunity this past off-season, it's very unclear why this decision was made.
At 5-foot-11, Pitlick may not have the size to compete in professional hockey alone, but he's also got great skill and the IQ to match, so while he may never be a regular at the NHL level, don't be shocked to see Pitlick on another team in the AHL before long.
