Bruce Boudreau's was fired by the Vancouver Canucks in humiliating fashion, and now he's revealed the similarities in tactics to the Rick Tocchet situation.

The Vancouver Canucks are likely to miss out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024/25, and with Rick Tocchet's future up in the air, public negotiations have seemingly begun about his next deal.
While there was speculation that the team could look to give him a pay raise moving forward, there have been some question marks over making it public, and now, former Head Coach Bruce Boudreau weighed in.
In his recent comments, Boudreau suggested that these were the same type of tactics the Canucks used against him when he was negotiating, suggesting that making it public was their way of strong arming him into signing the deal that they wanted.
I can see how the Vancouver management works there. What they'll do is-they did the same thing to me when they wanted me to sign my deal-they put it public and then they say 'Hey, if you don't do this, then we're gonna do this.'

So the M.O. on that, as soon as I heard about the Rick Tocchet situation, I said 'I know exactly what Jim Rutherford is doing here', and it's almost like bullying him into signing the deal.
Given the public way in which his saga played out in Vancouver despite the fan support that he had at the time, there's no one that better knows these tactics, and it appears that the front office of Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin haven't changed at all.
To keep Tocchet on, the Canucks are likely going to have to offer him a massive pay rise, and them making it public is a way to somehow avoid that, but at this point in time, it appears that if Boudreau is right, things in Vancouver could get messy.
