Brayden Schenn was fantastic for the Blues a season ago, but now St. Louis' captain is reportedly on the trade block, according to a top insider.
The St. Louis Blues made a surprise run to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024/25, but with a team loaded with young stars, it appears as though this summer could be one of change for the Blues.
Despite having a very successful season, the belief around the NHL is that the Blues could trade captain Brayden Schenn, with most around St. Louis believing that he will need to be replaced on the team ahead of 2025/26, with TSN Insider Chris Johnston listing him on his off-season trade list.
This wouldn't be a shock move for the Blues, as the belief is that he was available at the 2025 trade deadline as well, and after a 50 point season leading this team on an incredibly hot run in the second half, it makes sense that there could be interest in him around the league.
Heading into the off-season, Schenn has three years left on his current deal, carrying a salary cap hit of $6.5 million per season, and while he's not getting any younger at 33-years of age, it's safe to say that he could still be very valuable for a contending team.
At this point in time, it's too early to tell just which teams around the league could be interested in Schenn, but given that he's a perfect fit as a 2C on many contending teams, it's safe to say that it makes sense for contenders to be interested.
It's not often that we see team captain's traded, although
Jacob Trouba was moved by the Rangers a year ago, and there's still plenty of time to see his market play out, but for now, all signs point to a trade.
