The Montreal Canadiens have cut ties with the physically imposing 6'7'' goaltender Joe Vrbetic, relinquishing his rights and releasing him to restricted free agency after not offering him an ELC.

The Montreal Canadiens had until 5 PM EST today to decide the fate of several of their unsigned prospects, and a decision has been made regarding the fate of a physically imposing goaltender in their system.
Goaltender Joe Vrbetic, who they took in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft with the 214th overall pick, was not given an entry-level deal by the club. He is now an unrestricted free agent.
Vrbetic never played for the Canadiens, instead playing briefly for their AHL affiliate Laval Rocket while spending the bulk of his playing time with the Trois-Rivières Lions of the ECHL.
