Alexandre Texier is set to depart the St. Louis Blues, and according to Pierre LeBrun, there's only interest from the player in two teams as a free agent.
Recently,
David Kampf had his contract terminated by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as a result, he was free to sign anywhere in the National Hockey League as a free agent,
choosing Vancouver in the process.
Now, St. Louis Blues forward Alexandre Texier appears to be following the same pattern, as it was announced on Saturday that he has officially been waived for the purpose of contract termination.
Texier drawing interest from two teams
Sure, that likely means a pay cut from his $2.1 million AAV deal, but if it means playing time, that's clearly the preference of the 26-year old former second-round draft pick.
Now, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has chimed in, revealing that up to nine teams are interested in the talented forward, however Texier and agent Dan Millstein have narrowed their landing spots down to just two teams in the Eastern Conference.
As of this point, it's unclear who those two teams are, but with Texier appearing in just 8 NHL games earlier this season, it's clear that it's best for the player and the team to simply move on.
In those 8 games, Texier has just one assist, but after posting 30 points in 78 games back in 2023/24 for the Blue Jackets, the 26-year old has proven that with opportunity can come production.
We have confirmation that a split is coming, but until Texier decides on his new team, we don't know where he's going to land, but for a contending team to get a cheap, experienced forward, it's going to be a fantastic pickup on the free agency market.
