Connor Bedard is off to a red-hot start in 2025/26 for Chicago, but according to reports, it's still not enough for him to crack Team Canada's Olympic roster.
The 2026 Olympic Games are right around the corner, and in just a matter of months, Team Canada along with the rest of the competing nations have to finalize a roster for the first best-on-best hockey tournament since the 2014 games.
For Canada, there's so many big decisions to make given the incredible wealth of talent in the National Hockey League, but as of late, the talk has centred around two players;
Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard.
Bedard likely not in Canada's plans right now
The No. 1 overall picks from the 2023 and 2024 NHL Draft have impressed early in their NHL careers, and in 2025/26, they shockingly rank tied for third in points with 31 each.
While Celebrini is likely considered a lock for Team Canada, the same can't be said about Bedard for some reason, as TSN's
Chris Johnston revealed that if the rosters were picked today, Bedard wouldn't make the cut.
I still think if the roster had to be chosen today...he would not be on the team.
This comes just a week after Wayne Gretzky stated that Bedard was earning his way onto the Team Canada roster, but for some reason, there's either hard feelings about not attending the World Championship last season or there's a belief that he's not yet ready.
Either way, Bedard may not make Canada's roster, but in assembling a forward group of the best 12 players from Canada, it's clear that the 20-year old should be on that roster, so for now, we'll wait to see what Canada do with the former No. 1 overall draft pick.
