Evgeni Malkin will go down as an all-time great in Pittsburgh, but now, Insider Josh Yohe believes this will be his farewell season with the Penguins.
Over the past few years, the Pittsburgh Penguins have clearly begun a rebuild with a lack of top talent around their superstar veterans like
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
Evgeni Malkin's time in Pittsburgh Coming to an End
Despite this, Malkin is a free agent at the end of the 2025/26 season, and while his future in hockey remains up in the air, Penguins Insider Josh Yohe all but confirmed one thing on the latest episode of
The Athletic Hockey Show.
On the podcast, Yohe all but confirms that Malkin will be departing the Penguins at the end of this season, and whether he goes into retirement, joins another NHL team or heads home to Russia and the KHL, it appears that he will no longer represent the Penguins.
Malkin originally landed in Pittsburgh as the No. 2 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, and since that point, he's played in 1,213 games, tallying 514 goals and 1,346 points in that time while helping the team to three Stanley Cups, defining the franchise alongside Crosby for a generation of fans.
Ultimately though, Malkin is now 39-years of age and isn't the player that he once was, so for Penguins fans that have grown up watching the Russian superstar, enjoy this season, as it's more likely than not going to be his final the one in Pittsburgh.
