John Tortorella was fired by the Philadelphia Flyers this past season, and now, the veteran coach has landed a new role with ESPN.
Last season was meant to be one full of hope and taking a step forward in Philadelphia, but in what would become John Tortorella's final year with the organization, the team showed very little fight and very little improvement as a whole.
That, combined with Tortorella's typical antics with the media and the team led to his dismissal, as the organization quickly replaced him with a former Flyers player in former Canucks bench boss Rick Tocchet.
Tortorella Find New Role With ESPN
Now, right before the regular season is set to kick off with a triple-header on Tuesday night, it was
announced by ESPN that they have extended several names such as PK Subban and Kevin Weekes, while also landing Tortorella as an on-air analyst.
While he may get on the media's nerves as a Head Coach, as a personality and a hockey mind, there aren't many better out there than Torts, who is an incredibly divisive name in the hockey world.
With ESPN clearly needing some energy and some personality in their NHL broadcasts however, there's no one better to fill that role than Tortorella, who may have coached his last team in the NHL after coaching New York, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Vancouver and eventually the Flyers.
Only time will tell if he's going to be behind the bench again, but given how relatively low-stress a role as an analyst can be in comparison, it's safe to say that this is the perfect role for the veteran coach.
