‘That’s just stupidity’: Jon Cooper already furious after game one loss to Montreal

After tonight’s heartbreaking loss to the Montreal Canadiens, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper ripped into his team for a lack of discipline.
The Tampa Bay Lightning came into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a favorite to make a deep run but matched up against a difficult Montreal Canadiens team.
Game one was filled with a ton of action and lived up to the hype that was built around it.
After a back and forth game the teams remained deadlocked at 3 heading into overtime but the Lightning had taken their fourth penalty of the game on a Jake Guentzel high stick.
Unfortunately for Lightning that would be the difference in the game as Juraj Slafkovsky finished off a hat trick on the power play in overtime to give Montreal the win.
After the loss in overtime, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper ripped into his team for their lack of discipline giving the game away to the Canadiens.

During his post game press conference, Cooper was asked what led to the loss for the Lightning tonight.
He placed the blame squarely on his players calling them out for stupidity and lack of discipline at every turn.
I have a problem with us. We took four offensive zone penalties. That’s not over aggression that’s just stupidity. That was on us it was a game where we just gave them every opportunity to win.
The Lightning now find themselves down 1-0 and having lost home ice advantage against a young and talented Canadiens team.
They will now have to fight back to tie the series and then hope to steal a game on the road in front of the passionate Canadiens fans.
