After recent comments by Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet on Matvei Michkov's ice time, general manager Danny Briere has stepped in and spoken about the issue.
Second year Philadelphia Flyers forward Matvei Michkov recently saw his ice time go to a season low in an OT loss to the Los Angeles Kings, playing in barely over 10 minutes.
Soon after that, Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet said that Michkov didn't report to training camp in September in proper playing shape.
Now, Flyers general manager Daniel Briere, who took Michkov with the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, is speaking out about the Russian forward's future with the team.
One thing I can tell you is Matvei Michkov isn’t going anywhere. Let’s make that clear. Matvei is going to be here for a long time. He’s going to be a good player for the Flyers.
What he’s going through right now is all part of the learning process. So that’s out of the way. He’s not going anywhere. He’ll be here, he’ll be a good player. - Daniel Briere

Rick Tocchet Recently Took A Jab At Matvei Michkov
After his season-low in ice time, Tocchet said that Michkov didn't report to training camp in proper playing shape.
We've talked about it, and I'll be very frank, I'm a very frank guy, I go down swinging. Matvei did not come into camp in shape, and it's hard to play yourself into shape. I have not told him or any of our players, 'Take a guy one on one, come out of the corner with the puck, make a play on the rush.' He's having a tough time in those situations.....we're trying to get him to that level. Practice, make sure you're on time for treatments. - Rick Tocchet
Michkov is indeed going through a sophomore slump with only 28 points (13G, 15A) in 53 games.
