The Ottawa Senators are making a late charge to the post-season, but now those hopes have been shattered following a brutal injury to Thomas Chabot.
Following a very promising 2024/25 campaign that saw them return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Ottawa Senators entered the new season full of hope and optimism in the Atlantic Division.
While they started the season slow, they've managed to turn things around in recent times, and now, they find themselves sitting tied for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Thomas Chabot injury could be a major blow to the Senators
Unfortunately, they suffered a brutal blow that has officially been confirmed on Thursday, with veteran Thomas Chabot officially out for between six and eight weeks following a broken forearm.
While not the Senators most important player, Chabot is a key piece of their blue line, and this may end up being the final straw for a team that's struggled to find consistency for much of the 2025/26 campaign.
The injury to Chabot occurred recently when he collided with New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller, and after immediately dropping his stick in pain, the team's worst fears have officially been confirmed.
This season, Chabot has posted 7 goals and 31 points in 55 games played along with a +6 differential, and given his veteran presence, this is a brutal blow for the team in so many ways.
Ultimately, the Senators are still a squad that's got immense talent all over the ice, and while their post-season hopes aren't completely over, this could be the blow that ends them prematurely.
