New York Rangers Sign Defenseman After Over Three Years Out of the NHL

Former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Andrej Sustr is being added to the New York Rangers on a PTO (professional tryout agreement).
NHL teams will soon gather for training camp, and there will also likely be more than a few PTOs (professional tryout agreements) signed by players still hoping for a chance to extend their NHL careers.
One player is former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Andrej Sustr, who has been invited to camp of the New York Rangers with a PTO.
#NYR are adding defenseman Andrej Sustr to their training camp roster on a PTO.
Sustr, 34, spent the last three years playing in Europe.
There are now 19 players who have signed #NHL tryout agreements with camps opening next week.
He most recently played for Tappara of the Finnish Liiga. He was not drafted into the NHL, but played in the development camps of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.
He has 69 points (11G, 58A) in 361 career NHL games.
The Rangers made multiple major changes
The Rangers were forced into making major changes in leadership following a truly disappointing year that saw them miss the playoffs only a season after winning the President's Trophy and advancing to the ECF.
They terminated
head coach Peter Laviolette and replaced him with another former Stanley Cup winning coach, Mike Sullivan, who had just been let go by the Penguins.
