Tonight, a new report has revealed that former New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy has been struggling with the shock of being fired.
The New York Islanders have consistently been a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference over the last decade.
Despite that success, they have not been able to break through and go on deep playoff runs and this season suffered the ultimate disappointment of missing the playoffs altogether.
After that failure, the Islanders decided to let go of head coach Patrick Roy with just a few days left in the season replacing him with Pete DeBoer a move that surprised many.
Since then, Patrick Roy has not spoken publicly but new reports are indicating that the Hall of Fame goaltender was shaken by the Islanders decision and is still processing what happened.
Patrick Roy reportedly shaken after unexpected Islanders firing
A new report from Ray Cloutier has indicated that Roy has not taken the firing well.
Cloutier also mentioned that the decision to fire Roy reportedly came from higher up than GM Mathieu Darche meaning the Islanders ownership likely got involved.
He's having a hard time recovering. He was shaken. He didn't expect it... Also, it wasn't Darche, it was higher up than that... Can we see Pat back in the National League? Well, that's my question... There aren't going to be any jobs available. Yes, the jobs are already open.
This type of betrayal from the Islanders organization seems like it will be incredibly tough to shake for Roy but there is still some hope according to Cloutier that he could interview for the Maple Leafs or Oilers head coaching jobs.
Patrick Roy's competitive side will always make me answer yes to your question, Denis, but right now, they're really going to have to push the right buttons. It's certain that probably the Leafs or the Oilers could look into him.
As the coaching carousel continues this offseason, all eyes will be on Roy to see if he gets another opportunity behind an NHL bench or if he will have to work his way back up again and prove himself.
