New Jersey Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom attempted to slash a Carolina Hurricanes player, but accidentally got his own teammate Cody Glass instead.

The Carolina Hurricanes are off and running in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, grabbing a 1-0 series lead after beating the New Jersey Devils 4-1 on Sunday at Lenovo Center.
And there were frustrations boiling over in the 3rd period as the Devils were trailing 3-1, leading to Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom attempting to slash Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov in front of the net.
Instead, he accidentally caught his own teammate Cody Glass with his vicious slash instead.
It was one of many injuries that the Devils experienced during the game; they lost Brendan Dillon in the second period after being shoved to the ice by William Carrier. He required assistance to make it off the ice and he didn't return.
The Devils also lost defenseman Luke Hughes, though he was eventually able to return.
Ex-NHL defenseman Ryan Whitney summed up the situation for the Devils nicely on his X account:
Jack Hughes is already out. Then Dillon gets banged up and to top it all off Luke Hughes looks to have injured his shoulder only to have Markstrom slash Cody Glass by accident and injure him. I don't think it's the Devils year.
The Devils cannot afford to fall into an 0-2 hole to the Hurricanes, who are one of the most defensively responsible teams in the NHL. If they fail to even the series when they gather for Game 2 on Tuesday evening, it will be an extraordinary challenge for them to fight heir way back into the series.
