Per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli, there is one particular roadblock that would prevent a trade of Nazem Kadri from the struggling Calgary Flames to the Montreal Canadiens.
One of the most talked about teams with the trade deadline approaching is the Calgary Flames, who have already traded away Rasmus Andersson to the Vegas Golden Knights.
And one of the most talked about players that could soon be traded is forward Nazem Kadri; one of the teams that he has been linked to is the Montreal Canadiens, who are hoping to build on making the playoffs last year for the first time since their miracle 2021 run to the Stanley Cup Final.
But per a new report from analyst Frank Seravalli, the major holdup that would prevent a Kadri trade to the Habs is his contract.
Frank Seravalli: Re Nazem Kadri/Canadiens: I think they like the player, I don't think they're in love with the contract - Flames Talk (2/3)
Kadri signed a seven year contract with the Flames in 2022 with an AAV (average annual value) of $7 million.
So far this year, Kadri has 39 points (10G, 29A) in 56 games, nowhere close to last year's career-best output of 35 goals.
Nazem Kadri Has Been Heavily Involved In Trade Rumors
Despite his hefty contract which could potentially scare off interested teams barring a salary retention on the part of Flames GM Craig Conroy, Kadri has been one of the most talked-about players in trade rumours.
Kadri, who won a Stanley Cup in 2022 while wearing a Colorado Avalanche sweater, has also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 1,041 career NHL games, Kadri has 749 points (317G, 432A).
