The Montreal Canadiens have been on the bad end of some calls in recent times, and now a new statistic shows that they've not been favoured by officials lately.
The past 18 months have been wildly successful for the Montreal Canadiens, and with the team coming through their recent rebuild, there are hopes that this young core can develop into a genuine Stanley Cup contender in the coming years.
With a record of 13-8-3 early in the 2025/26 season, they're showing flashes of being a very good team, but given their injuries, it's been tough sledding as of late for this young, up-and-coming team.
NHL officials show bias towards the Canadiens
Whether or not it's bias or simply being undisciplined, one of the Canadiens biggest struggles in that time has been giving up penalties but not earning them, with a recent statistic showing how bad things have gotten.
According to a user on social media, the Canadiens have received 12% more penalties than they've earned dating back to the 2024/25 season, and while they've had success in that time, this issue is no doubt holding them back.
This season, the Canadiens have been
frustrated several times by the NHL officials, believing that a bad call or two has cost them some games, and given how tight things are set to be in the Atlantic Division, they need every point they can get moving forward.
Ultimately, it's hard to tell whether or not these calls have all been bad ones or if the Canadiens are simply an undisciplined team, but if they keep this up, it's going to be very hard for them to win against elite opponents in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
