The Montreal Canadiens have been linked to NCAA free agent forward T.J. Hughes as the season comes to a close.
The Montreal Canadiens have one of the better prospect pools in the NHL but it has taken a few hits recently.
Perhaps most notably, former 1st overall pick
Juraj Slafkovsky has graduated to the NHL.
In 187 career games he is up to 40 goals and 103 points with the addition of 16 goals and 27 assists this season.
Meanwhile, former 5th overall pick
David Reinbacher remains one of the team's top prospects, but he 6'2" blueliner missed most of the season with a knee injury, making just 8 appearances in the AHL so far.
But now as the NCAA season comes to a close, a whole new class of free agents has just become available to NHL clubs.
One prospect in particular has apparently caught the eye of Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
That would be Michigan's T.J. Hughes. Hughes, 23, just finished his third season with the Wolverines, putting up 15 goals and 38 points in 36 games.
He has been a consistent performer for the school, scoring right around a point-per-game in all three seasons.
His Sophomore season was a real breakout when he potted 19 goals and added 29 helpers for 48 points in 41 games.
Hughes is expected to go pro this season so the Canadiens will have to act fast if they want to add him to their prospect pool.
At 23 years old he is already developed for the most part and could even potentially slot into the lineup at the NHL level before the regular season comes to an end, so be sure to keep an eye out for him!
