Logan O'Connor inked a new deal with the Avalanche this year, and now, he's expressed frustration after being healthy scratched by the team.
The Colorado Avalanche are one of the deepest teams in the NHL, and with nothing but Stanley Cup glory on their mind, this is a team that's absolutely rolling towards the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Unfortunately, when you have a deep team, that often requires some tough choices to be made, as the Avalanche have surprisingly made forward Logan O'Connor a healthy scratch on a consistent basis as of late.
While that wouldn't usually be an issue, the team just inked him to a six-year extension worth $2.5 million a season that kicks in next season, and unsurprisingly, the 28-year old is fairly disappointed.
"Look, it's very disappointing. There's no way around that.
Yeah, disappointing, I guess, is the right word to put it. You just got to be the best teammate you can be."
The former undrafted forward has played in 332 games in his NHL career, so he obviously knows how things work, and as a result of the team getting healthy, there's simply no room for him in the current lineup in the eyes of Head Coach Jared Bednar.
O'Connor has played in 69 games this season, tallying 7 goals and 16 points during that span, and while there's definitely a chance he finds his way back into the bottom-six at some point moving forward, it's easy to see where the frustration comes from.
Ultimately, this is one of the deepest teams in the entire NHL, and as a result, healthy scratches will happen, but with the veteran experience, O'Connor is handling it the right way as he works hard to do whatever he can to help this team achieve their goals.
