Per a report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the Montreal Canadiens were nearly involved in a second blockbuster trade during last week's trade deadline.

Even though they were rumoured to make some moves at the trade deadline, the Montreal Canadiens and general manager Kent Hughes didn't make any moves and are prepared to try and go on a playoff run with their roster constructed as is.
They were linked to multiple players, including Nazem Kadri, who was traded instead from the Calgary Flames to the Colorado Avalanche where he won a Stanley Cup in 2022.
NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman recently said that there was some noise surrounding a potential deal with the divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs involving Matthew Knies, but that it fell through.
Now, NHL analyst David Pagnotta is reporting that the Habs were nearly involved in a second blockbuster move at Friday's deadline.
David Pagnotta: It is my belief the Habs were trying to acquire a top-line calibre forward, and speaking with various sources, that wasn't the only big deal Montreal was close on - Fourth Period (3/9)
The Canadiens are in the first Eastern Conference Wild Card spot with 78 points.

The Canadiens Did Not Make Any Moves At The Trade Deadline

The Canadiens were linked to multiple players, including Nazem Kadri and Matthew Knies.
Last year, the Habs made the playoffs for the first time since their miracle run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, in which they lost in five games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
They were eliminated by the Washington Capitals in the first round, but left their fans believing that it's the start of something special with the franchise looking for their first Stanley Cup since 1993.
