Martin St-Louis makes a bold but controversial call before a massive Game 5 in Buffalo

Martin St-Louis chose rest over reps before Game 5.
The Montreal Canadiens did not just lose Game 4 by a 3-2 score. They lost a chance to push Buffalo to the edge.
Now the series is tied 2-2, and St-Louis has turned Wednesday into a travel day instead of a Brossard reset.
That is the part that stings for fans. After a home defeat, no practice reads like protection, not correction.
But this is also a playoff management call. Montreal is flying to Buffalo in the afternoon, with Game 5 set for Thursday at 7 pm on CBC, SN and TVA Sports.
Stu Cowan's update landed right after the loss, which is why the reaction hit so fast.
St-Louis is betting on legs, not drills
The concern is real because Montreal's margin has shrunk. A tied series on the road gives every turnover, matchup miss and special-teams shift extra weight.
Lane Hutson has 10 points in 11 playoff games, so the blue line is still driving offense. Nick Suzuki has 9 points, which keeps the top six connected.
The sharper question is whether the Canadiens needed ice time to fix their details or a quiet day to keep their legs fresh.
St-Louis clearly chose recovery. That puts pressure on the locker room to self-correct without a full practice sheet.
Jakub Dobes also remains central to the bet. His .914 playoff save percentage gives Montreal cover, but it cannot become the entire plan.
This decision will age quickly. If Montreal starts fast in Buffalo, St-Louis looks calm and in control.
If the Canadiens come out flat, cancelling practice becomes the first thing everyone points to.
