Capitals forward Tom Wilson, who was one of the most controversial figures in Game 3 of their series against the Habs, may have ended Montreal's Stanley Cup hopes.
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson is the bane of the existence of several teams and players, including the New York Rangers for his actions during a 2021 game at Madison Square Garden.
You can add the Montreal Canadien to that list - not only for his fight on the bench in Game 3 of their opening round series against Josh Anderson and subsequent mock crying gesture, but for his bone-crunching hit on Alexandre Carrier in the 3rd period of last night's Game 4.
At the time, the Canadiens led 2-1 and were hoping for the knockout punch; instead, Wilson's hit on Carrier led directly to Washington's tying goal by Brandon Duhaime.
(Tom's hit) completely changed the momentum in the game, and that's a prime example of one of the elements he brings. He does so many different things, and everybody in here knows how impactful and unique he is. You saw firsthand how significantly he can influence a team coming back and winning a hockey game at the most important time of the year.
While speaking on the Monumental Sports Network, analyst and former Capitals goalie Brent Johnson summed it up nicely:
That was one of the most brutal hits I've seen.
Wilson and the Capitals can knock out the Habs from the playoffs should they win in Game 5 tomorrow night in Washington.
