Cole Caufield has been incredibly clutch for Montreal, and now he's made NHL history with his latest overtime winner for the Canadiens.
The Montreal Canadiens have incredibly high expectations coming into 2025/26 on the back of their young core, and through five games they're on fire, posting a 4-1-0 record.
On Thursday, that red-hot start continued as they came away winners 3-2 over the Nashville Predators, all thanks to a classic Cole Caufield
overtime winner as they've sent a clear message to the rest of the National Hockey League.
Caufield Makes NHL History With OT Winner
In the process of scoring the winner, Caufield nailed his 10th career overtime winner, making NHL history as the fastest player to ever get to 10 overtime goals in his NHL career.
Caufield's second goal of the game was the decider, as it took the 24-year old just 292 games at the National Hockey League level to get to 10 OT winners, and given how clutch he's been for Montreal, it's so easy to see why their fans are so incredibly excited about his future.
With the OT winner, he now has five goals in just five games this season, and with a young core of Hutson, Demidov, Slafkvosky and Suzuki among others, this is a team that could be a genuine Stanley Cup contender this season.
Ultimately though, this game was all about Caufield, who showed once again why he's already an elite goal scorer in the NHL at just 24-years of age, and if this red-hot start to the season can continue, there's a chance that we see a 40, or perhaps even a 50 goal season for the young NHL record breaker.
