Edmonton Oilers CEO Confirms the Truth Behind Connor McDavid Trade Talks
Connor McDavid's name came up in trade speculation during his contract negotiation, but now it's been confirmed that no offers officially came in.
This past off-season was a long, tough one for Edmonton Oilers fans, but on the eve of the 2025/26 regular season, their captain and superstar forward Connor McDavid took a major discount to stay with his team for a further two seasons.
It was a deal that shocked the entire NHL world, and even with the salary cap going up, McDavid did the unthinkable as he looks to finally lead the Oilers to the Stanley Cup, something they've been one step short of for two straight seasons.
No Official Trade Offers Came In For Connor McDavid
However, there was a point in time when analysts and fans of the Oilers were considering potential trade offers for McDavid as his negotiations drew on throughout the summer, with some believing it was a genuine possibility.
Now, Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson has confirmed that while teams may have been internally considering an offer, nothing ever came to an official offer, and the team were never going to consider it anyway.
I mean, I think there were lots of teams that were maybe looking at it and wondering, 'What's going to happen there?' But ultimately, there was no trade offer, and we weren't thinking that at all.
Ultimately, trading McDavid decades after the team did the same to Wayne Gretzky would be criminal from the Oilers front office, but now, all eyes are set on the Stanley Cup once more as the team look to take the hardest and final step towards that.
