Cole Caufield could be punished by Gary Bettman and the NHL after celebrating his overtime winner
The Sharks may be the worst team in the league on paper, but on the ice, they have many skilled players that mustn't be taken lightly.
In the overtime period, Cole Caufield gave his team the win with a spectacular goal.
Indeed, he got past Macklin Celebrini with ease and beat the Sharks' goalie, Alexandar Georgiev, with a top-net shot.
It wasn't over at this point, as Caufield stole the show with his goal celebration. As he skated by the boards, he threw his stick into the stands, something his good friends and former teammates
Trevor Zegras and
Jack Hughes did in recent years.
If you missed it, watch how it all went down in the video below:
Even his head coach, Martin St-Louis, was proud of him:
The NHL rulebook states that players could receive game misconducts if they throw equipment outside the playing area, but only when it's for protesting an official's decision.
"When a player throws his stick or any part thereof or any other object or piece of equipment outside the playing area in protest of an official's decision."
Here, it's safe to say Caufield didn't object to any decision from the referees; he only did it to celebrate his overtime goal.
Like Zegras and Hughes before him, Caufield won't be punished by the League for throwing his stick into the crowd.
With that goal, Caufield tied his personal career-high goal tally with 28, after only 59 games.
