Brendan Gallagher gets emotional goodbye from hundreds of fans at Montreal event today

Gallagher was welcomed at the annual Montreal Sports Celebrity Evening at the Cummings Centre, where he was named the 2026 Sports Personality of the Year. The room gave him the kind of reception usually reserved for players who did more than score goals - players who became part of the city's emotional fabric.

This comes just days after Gallagher fought back tears and admitted he expects to «find a new home» after more than 900 games with the Canadiens. That alone makes Sunday's scene feel less like an award appearance and more like a community sendoff.
