Kirill Kaprizov just signed a massive new deal in Minnesota, and at the press conference, Bill Guerin was aggressive in addressing the situation.
After months of speculation, the Minnesota Wild and Kirill Kaprizov announced a
historic contract extension on Tuesday, with the superstar winger signing a deal worth $17 million annually over eight years.
That locks him in as the face of the franchise, and given that he's a home grown star, it sends a fantastic message to the rest of the league, with the team clearly ready to build from within to hopefully push to make this franchise a consistent contender.
Bill Guerin hopes Kaprizov is fired up about his new deal
While there was some speculation that Kaprizov could want out after turning down other offers from Minnesota, he eventually settled on becoming the highest paid player in NHL history, a deal that shocked many around the league.
One person it didn't shock was Bill Guerin, as the GM was reportedly embarrassed that Kaprizov turned down his other deals, and now, that seemingly came out at the introductory press conference.
When Kaprizov was asked whether he was happy or not, that frustration from Guerin showed, as he responded with some expletives as he jumped in before the Russian winger could answer.
«Are you excited?»
Bill Guerin: «he f**kin better be»
Clearly, this wasn't offensive to anyone, as Kaprizov was all smiles following the historic deal, and even if Guerin was frustrated before, he's no doubt ecstatic now as he's locked in his franchise star long-term.
The work isn't done, as Minnesota still need to put a top tier team around him, but after so much speculation, there was clearly immense amounts of emotion within this team over the past 24 hours.
